MAYSVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- A one-time deputy at a northeastern Kentucky jail has been charged with stealing the identities of inmates at the facility.

The Ledger-Independent reported that the Mason County Detention Center fired 43-year-old Belinda Morton of Maysville in February after investigators discovered she gave her phone number to a male inmate.

Two inmates, a man and a woman, complained to the sheriff's office in January that their identifying information was used to apply for a number of credit cards.

Investigators traced the information on one card to inmates at the jail who used it to put minutes on a calling card in Morton's name. Investigators say they traced the cards to addresses associated with Martin, who was in the Lewis County Detention Center. Jail records did not list an attorney.
