LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Customs and Border Protection officers have seized more than half a pound of heroin at the UPS express consignment facility in Louisville, according to a news release by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
In that news release sent Tuesday afternoon, authorities say they found the heroin hidden at the bottom of a large duffel bag February 28.
“This was an excellent interception by our CBP officers at the Louisville UPS location who consistently seize shipments of dangerous drugs and other contraband coming into our nation,” says William Ferrara, Acting Director of CBP Chicago Field Operations.
Officers found the shipment of heroin during a routine inspection of international freight from India. The shipment, which was 11 ounces, was intercepted on its way to Toronto, Canada.
No arrests have been made in this case yet, CBP authorities say, but the information has been turned over to several other agencies for investigation.
