(WHAS11) -- Louisville Metro Police say they are tracking more gangs in the city and it is not just in the areas you might suspect.

A member of Metro Police who did not want to be identified describes what they are seeing with organized crime in the city. “It’s something that just gets passed down. Someone gets involved at an early age and stays with them. Its always that pursuit of fast money, no work, this is what my friends do, this is the way it's always been. They don't think about tomorrow they don’t think about 10 years from now. It’s how can I make it through the day?”

The member says there are more than 2,000 suspected gang members in Louisville and more than 200 known gangs.

Gangs are in places like the Copperfield subdivision out in far eastern Jefferson county. Police say there was a gang of young people out here who called themselves the Copperfield crew involved in illegal activity.
