LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The motion to dismiss an indictment against Ricky Kelly in federal court was granted on Aug. 19.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office filed a motion to dismiss a charge in a federal case against one of Louisville’s most notorious accused killers on Monday.
Ricky Kelly was indicted this afternoon in state court on one murder charge and remained in federal custody on a $500,000 bond.
The newly filed motion from the U.S. Attorney’s Office says they moved to dismiss the case because the murder of a witness last year.
Greg Sawyers was set to testify but was killed before he could.
In the same case, the Commonwealth’s Attorney charged Kelly with eight counts of murder in 2010 in Louisville.
Many of those killed were witnesses in other cases.
The other seven murders Kelly was once charged with are under review again.
Kelly had a co-defendant in federal court, Dion Neal.
He’s accused of paying Kelly to commit the murder.
His trial is set for September.
