Police: Bardstown officer's murder was pre-meditated

BARDSTOWN, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The reward continues to grow and investigators are following up on every lead on after a Bardstown police officer was killed Sunday.

Investigators said Ofc. Jason Ellis was shot multiple times when he stopped to pick up debris out of the roadway on his way home from work.

Police said Monday they believe the shooting was pre-meditated.

"Someone planned this and someone planned to shoot somebody at that spot, at that location, at that time," Norman Chaffins, Kentucky State Police, said.

The reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspects or suspects that shot Ellis now stands at $6,000.

There are a number of ways someone may leave a tip:

  • Call your local KSP Post or email the Public Affairs Officer with a tip
  • Call your local police department

Visitation for Ellis will be Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Parkway Baptist Church in Bardstown. His funeral service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the church. He will be buried at Highview Cemetery in Chaplin, Ky.
