LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A woman is now facing a murder charge after a domestic shooting last month has pleaded not guilty.

Candra McWhorter was arraigned Monday on murder. She was originally charged with assault in connection with a shooting on Wilson Avenue Feb. 26.

Police said McWhorter shot her boyfriend, 29-year-old Ollie Davis, in the chest during an argument.

McWhorter was arrested and charged with assault March 3, but that charge was upgraded to murder after Davis died over the weekend.

McWhorter's attorney said in court Monday his client was acting in self defense.

She is being held at Metro Corrections on a cash bond until her trial date.
