NORTH VERNON, Ind. -- A North Vernon man was killed in a single vehicle crash on S.R. 7 in Jennings County on Wednesday, July 10.

According to Trooper Matt Holley, at approximately 4:30, a 1995 Honda Accord driven by 24 year old Steven C. Litzy of North Vernon was traveling southbound on S.R. 7 near C.R. 600S when the vehicle left the roadway striking a drainage ditch and then flipped several times before coming to rest on its top.

Litzy was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by Scipio Geneva Fire Fighters. Litzy was transported to Jennings County Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The preliminary investigation indicates Litzy may have been distracted due to cell phone usage which caused him to leave the roadway.

This crash is a tragic reminder of how distracted driving can result in deadly consequences.
