BULLITT COUNTY, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A murder investigation is underway in Bullitt County after a body was discovered along the 3000 block of Weaver Run Road Saturday.

The coroner has identified the body as 45-year-old Robert Holt, who lived in Jefferson County. According to the coroner the cause of death was blunt force trauma and a single gunshot wound.

Rick Phillips has lived in the area for almost 20 years.

“First dead body I know of from around here,” he said.

Phillips said he spoke to the man who found the body.

“He said the face was all smashed in,” Phillips said.  “It was beat up real bad.”

Phillips said the man, a logger working on a nearby property, could see the body from the road.  The logger at first thought he was looking at a mannequin, Phillips said.

“He just jumped out [to] see what it was . . . and it was a body,” Phillips said.  “A dead body.”

Investigators believe the murder did not happen where the logger said he found the body.  They said they think the suspect, or suspects, used the wooded area alongside the road as a place to hide the body.

Police have not made any arrests.

The Bullitt County Sheriff's Office is working with Louisville Metro Police on the case.
