LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A former Jefferson County Public Schools teacher charged with rape, sodomy and sexual abuse was in a Jefferson County courtroom Wednesday morning for a pretrial hearing.

Attorneys said they need more time to get Jessica Boyer's case straightened out because she is also facing similar charges in Oldham County, where she lives. All of the charges in both counties are related to the same student.

The allegations came to light in April when police said they saw Boyers in a car at Buechel Park in Louisville engaging in a sexual act with her student. Boyers was a coach and teacher at Highland Middle School. She resigned after the district put her on non-instructional duty because of the investigation.

Boyers will have one more pretrial hearing before attorneys set a trial date. She'll be back in court on Nov. 7. Boyers has not spoken publicly about what happened but her not guilty plea stands.
