2 men face drug, handgun charges after traffic stop

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A passenger arrested along with the driver during a traffic stop Thursday is now facing additional charges after police said they found several pounds of pot at his home. 

Francisco Castaneda, 26, was riding with 24-year-old Jose Martinez when they were stopped by officers for following to close to another vehicle on Interstate 64. Upon searching Martinez's vehicle, officers said they found approximately 1 lb. of marijuana and a handgun under the driver's seat.

Both men were arrested and charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon and trafficking in marijuana. Martinez was also cited for following too close.

After Castaneda was taken to Metro Corrections, detectives executed a search warrant at his home. Police said during the search of the apartment they found 10 additional bags of marijuana.

According to court documents, police also found a bag containing what they believe is heroin and digital scales. Investigators recovered more than $2,000 cash from the residence.

Casteneda was charged with another count of trafficking marijuana and trafficking a controlled substance.
