MADISONVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Police say they have charged a western Kentucky woman with killing her boyfriend's 2-year-old son.
Twenty-eight-year-old Alexis Mayes of Earlington was charged Saturday with murder in the death of Kaleib Higgins, according to The Messenger of Madisonville.
Hopkins County Sheriff's Detective Matt Sanderson said in a statement that Higgins was taken by ambulance to the Regional Medical Center in Madisonville Saturday morning and was pronounced dead a short time later.
An autopsy determined the boy died of multiple blunt force trauma to the head and body.
Mayes was being held Monday at the Hopkins County Jail on a $500,000 cash bond. Jail records did not indicate whether she had an attorney.
