LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)-  LMPD says an officer was spotted by other officer driving on Peabody Lane, nearly hitting a parked car on the side of the street early Sunday morning.

Sgt. Jeff Wheeler, who works for LMPD’s traffic unit, was reported to be in his personal vehicle and not on duty.

The arresting officer says Wheeler ran a red light, eventually stopping in the Thorton’s parking lot on Bardstown and Goldsmith roads.

The officers who pulled Wheeler over say he failed the field sobriety test.

Wheeler was arrested and charged with DUI and reckless driving.

His blood alcohol level was allegedly .205.

Wheeler has been with LMPD since 1996 and has a clean record with the department.

He has been assigned to administrative duties at LMPD.  His police powers have been taken away while LMPD investigates.
