LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Murder charges have been filed against the alleged wrong-way driver in Thursday morning's fatal I-265 car accident.
According to police, David Batts, 34, is facing murder, DUI and driving on a suspended license charges.
The accident happened around 4:30 a.m. near the Shelbyville Road exit. Police said a white truck, driven by Batts, was traveling the wrong direction in the southbound lanes and hit a car traveling the correct way. The impact of the crash caused the truck to flip onto its roof.
According to the arrest report, Batts admitted to drinking The Hikes Point Lounge and had a .161 Blood Alcohol Level at the time of the accident.
Jason Shawler, 38, was killed in that accident. Shawler, of Highview, died of multiple blunt force trauma to the head.
Batts was transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
