RADCLIFF, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Two cars were stolen right out of a car dealership's lot in Radcliff, Kentucky early Tuesday morning. Within 24 hours, an arrest was made.
“They knew that they had been caught,” Captain Willie Wells with Radcliff Police said.
22-year-old Dijon Gaines and 19-year-old Alphonso Monrew were arrested late Tuesday night.
When they were arrested, they had five other vehicle keys in their possession, as well as 13 temporary license plates.
Police reports say Gaines admitted to throwing rocks at a window at Budget Car Sales off Dixie Boulevard in order to break-in.
“They'll think twice about it next time,” he said.
Police say the two stole a Dodge Charger and a Chevy Camaro. It didn't take long for the Camaro to show up.
“It was wrecked in Shively, a single vehicle accident, it was abandoned.”
Later that night, police say Gaines and Monrew returned to Budget Car Sales in Radcliff. Security at the dealership noticed lights flashing from one of the cars in the lot and that's when security saw the Dodge Charger driving by, and quickly called the police.
“They were in the charger when they were arrested and they were in possession of some of the key fabs and the temporary license plates,” he said.
Gaines also admitted that the two had stolen*another ca* from Shively one to two weeks prior.
“We're also communicating closely with LMPD, with Shively to see if these guys are involved with any other type of theft they may have,” he said.
The investigation is still ongoing.
Both men are facing third-degree burglary charges, as well as auto theft and are being held at Hardin County Detention Center on a $10,000 bond.
