LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) -- The Louisville Metro Police Department made a third and final arrest in recent sexual assaults in Old Louisville, near UofL.
The third suspect is 17-years-old.
Two other suspects were arrested, 18-year-old DezmeontAi Tinsley and a 16-year-old. They are charged with sodomy, robbery and kidnapping. The 16-year-old is also facing an arson charge.
The assaults happened in the areas of 3rd at Gaulbert and 7th at Shipp, near The Bellemy Apartments.
“...we’ve made the arrests. There’s nothing else to be fearful of in those areas when those women were taken,” Detective Anne Cohen, LMPD Special Victims Unit, said.
Police say a woman was carjacked and sexually assaulted on 3rd Street and Gaulbert Avenue on Monday, Sept. 12, and a female student was held at gunpoint and sexually assaulted on 7th Street and Shipp Avenue on Tuesday, Sept. 13.
The UofL student’s car was set on fire.
“When you’re in a traumatic incident like these two females were, you go into fight or flight. You either fight back and try to get away or you do what you have to to survive. They did what they had to to survive, which is why they’re survivors. They’re not victims,” Cohen said.
Cohen said this was the most difficult investigation of her career. She even cried during Thursday’s news conference when the third arrest was announced.
“Sometimes, some cases just stick with you. They hit you hard. These hit me hard. They just did,” Cohen said.
LMPD credits the collaboration between multiple departments and the victims’ help to conclude the case with three arrests.
