Police: Woman charged with smuggling heroin at Louisville airport

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A California woman has been jailed after investigators day she tried to bring in heroin at the Louisville International Airport.

According to arrest records, officials stopped 23-year-old Celena Smith after a K-9 alerted on her luggage.

Police said Smith allowed officers to search her luggage but she refused to show them her purse and was reportedly seen pouring perfume into the bag to try to cover up the smell of narcotics.

Once police got Smith’s bag, detectives found 20 bundles of heroin.

A judge has set her bond at $50,000 at the request of the detectives who describe Smith as a flight risk.

Smith is charged with importing heroin, aggravated trafficking in a controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence.

She’s currently being held at Metro Corrections with a court date set for Nov. 4.
