Man arrested in deadly shooting of woman on Dale Rd.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A man was arrested and is facing multiple charges after a deadly shooting in the 7000 block of Dale Road.

Jason Tomes, 38, is charged with murder, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, and criminal mischief.

The Louisville Metro Police Department said a woman, who they believe is in her thirties, was found dead with an apparent gunshot wound. She was shot around 3:30 a.m.

Tomes was later located and arrested.

During a police interview, LMPD says, Tomes admitted to shooting the woman during a conversation. Police said it appeared to be an impulsive act.

"During his interview he provided and interview, a mirandized statement, he admitted to shooting the victim, it appears that this was  a very impulsive murder, he stated he met the victim that night for the very first time, they had a casual conversation, they were looking up videos and talking and watching TV and for really no reason as far as we can tell he pulled a gun out and shot her, so he admitted to doing this, really providing no reason which is a very almost disturbing interview to listen to  it was very cold," said Lt. Emily McKinley.

“I believe he had some family that lived at that location, they met at that shed that night, from what we can tell and I guess she came over, she had known some people who lived there and maybe had come over to hang out and that is where they met,” said Lt. McKinley.

Lt. McKinley says Tomes also faces criminal mischief charge for damaging the LMPD interrogation room.

"He destroyed our interview room, he ripped the dry erase board off the wall, he kicked a whole in the wall and he urinated on the floor, so that is where the criminal mischief charges come from," said Lt. McKinley.

Tomes is also charges with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. WHAS11 obtained a copy of his criminal background history which dates back 20 years and includes charges of assault, burglary, terroristic threatening and menacing.

Police are still investigating three other homicides that happened overnight. LMPD says none of the incidents are connected.
