MERCER CO., Ky. (WHAS11) -- A man in Mercer County, Ky. will not serve jail time after accepting a plea deal on charges related to the abandonment of 43 horses.
69-year-old Charles Borell entered an Alford plea Thursday to nine of 43 misdemeanor counts of second-degree animal cruelty.
An Alford plea means a person doesn't admit to wrongdoing but accepts there is enough evidence for a conviction.
Borell will serve two years of probation.
Police arrested Borell in June after investigators found 43 abandoned and emaciated horses on a farm he leased.
Borell's daughter, a Breeder Cup horse trainer Maria Borell, is wanted on the same charges.
