SCOTTSVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Police are searching for answers after a 7-year-old girl was found dead after being reported missing while attending a football game in Allen County.
According to police, Gabriella Doolin and her mother were attending a game at Allen County High School when her mother told police she was missing around 7:40 p.m.
Police began an immediate search for the girl. They say around 25 minutes later, Kentucky State Police say Doolin's body was found in a creek in a wooded area behind the high school.
Doolin's body was transported to Louisville's Medical Examiner's office for an autopsy to determine a cause of death.
Authorities are calling her death a homicide.
Shock – definitely shock. For something to happen to a 7-year-old girl just – very difficult to understand. So, I mean that's it. I think everybody is in shock," Tyler Jaggers, a family friend said.
Doolin's mother released a statement Sunday evening:
"I'd give anything to hold my baby girl just one more time. Please continue to pray for my family. I don't know why anyone would do this to a baby or anyone for that matter!"
The case remains under investigation.
The family of Doolin say they are feeling hurt and confused by the senseless act of violence.
