Mother issues statement after 7-year-old is found dead

SCOTTSVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Police are searching for answers after a 7-year-old girl was found dead after being reported missing while attending a football game in Allen County.

According to police, Gabriella Doolin and her mother were attending a game at Allen County High School when her mother told police she was missing around 7:40 p.m.

Police began an immediate search for the girl. They say around 25 minutes later, Kentucky State Police say Doolin's body was found in a creek in a wooded area behind the high school.

Doolin's body was transported to Louisville's Medical Examiner's office for an autopsy to determine a cause of death.

Authorities are calling her death a homicide.

Shock – definitely shock. For something to happen to a 7-year-old girl just – very difficult to understand. So, I mean that's it. I think everybody is in shock," Tyler Jaggers, a family friend said.

Doolin's mother released a statement Sunday evening:

"I'd give anything to hold my baby girl just one more time. Please continue to pray for my family. I don't know why anyone would do this to a baby or anyone for that matter!"

The case remains under investigation.

The family of Doolin say they are feeling hurt and confused by the senseless act of violence.
