1 person in custody after shooting, police chase

LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) – Police are investigating after a shooting at a store in the 1400 block of Bardstown Road that ended in the arrest of a man.

Police said Anthony Whiteside, 31, entered a Sprint store, began asking questions and produced a handgun. He then fired the gun, striking a man. That victim was taken to University Hospital with injuries that appear to be non-life-threatening.

Whiteside fled from the scene in a vehicle. Police pursued the vehicle until it crashed at 18th and Muhammad Ali Blvd. He then fled on foot after the crash and was taken into custody at 19th and Cedar.

Whiteside is charged with first degree assault, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, and numerous traffic charges. He is currently being held in Metro Corrections.
