Tell Us: Do you agree or disagree with the trash can size limit?

(WHAS11) - A great debate is underway over garbage and one man who would rather “can it.”

Watch this story

In fact, it was the size of his trash cans that led to all the trash talk in Kentuckiana.

It’s happening in Georgetown in southern Indiana.

WHAS11 News has both sides on this debate.

Tell Us: Do you agree or disagree with the trash can size limit?

we as double size family's should not have to pay a fee for more trash can's, so i feel they should provide small type dumpster's. especially if you live in a poor neiborhood, it would gut down on illegall dumping, because some people can't afford another can at 35.00 each

I agree with the limit on the size of the can. I am a "trash man" with the town of corydon and when you pick up small cans, which can weigh anywhere from thirty to 50 pounds or more, those 100gallon plus garbage cans almost break your back. We DO NOT have to pick up anything that we are not comfortable lifting. We do try to get all of the trash we can get. I think that the that man is very inconsiderate and he should not expect someone to lift such a large object. He needs to use his head.

As much as the citizens have o pay for the service, they should be provided with the proper can. Sellersburg provides cans, and I am sure other cities do this as well. I would have done the same thing as Mr. Riggle did.

You are missing the point. Georgetown didn't create this ordinance to upset Mr Riggle, the ordinance is for the safety of the workers, as well as efficiency. Encouraging Mr Riggle or anyone else to keep it up with the extreme amount of garbage cans will slow down the efficiency which in turn will raise garbage rates, so if that is what you really want, keep it up, I'm sure the rest of the residents of the town will appreciate it.

It would help the planet if we all gave up something and produced less trash. I think the companies that produce packaging that goes into the landfills should be responisble for cleaning up/collecting trash. They should also be fined for not using "green" friendly packages.

Go ED!!! First the post office makes you put up a new mailbox, and now this?! Hey, do you have a trash can I can borrow? Keep it up, don't back down!

I happen to know Mr. Riggle and he is anything but an idiot. He has a degree in chemistry and makes a six figure salary. The money spent on the small cans is not the point. The point is that the town is charging for a service and THEN putting a stipulation on that service. When you consider that Georgetown already charges its customers approximately ONE HUNDRED FIFTY DOLLARS per month for water/sewage & trash, it's obscene to then turn around and say you have to buy new cans as well. The money spent on the small cans is about principal and not money. Let's not feel sorry for the trash guys either because they chose that job. If you don't like your job then quit and do something else but don't whine so much that someone else has to pony up money so you are comfortable in your job. Give me a Break!!!

What an idiot. This man Mr Riggle? purchased 40 small trash cans. He paid a minimum of $40. bucks for them. He could have gone to Walmart, Home Depot ect. and purchased a legal can for less than that. Georgetown sent out letters to all customers last month. They have also tagged cans. Why should G-town purchase them a can. The companies that supply the cans have the lift and You pay almost twice as much a month for this service. Listen to reason Mr Riggle. It is an ordinance! The ordinance is for the safety and the workers as well as to make garbage collection more efficient.

I totally understand what the Town of Georgetown is trying to do. The garbage collectors should not be forced to pick up oversize garbage cans. I have a private contractor for garbage collection and I would never put an excessive size can out. I'll buy a second can and put out two. If we have an excessive amount, my husband goes out and helps the garbage collector. Just common sense. Treat people the way you want to be treated. Thank You

i would buy 100 little cans !!!!!!thats rediculous!Whats this world coming to?

I think that the city needs to back off ad leave its citizens alone. Man has been collecting trash for 100's of years without anyone telling how to do it. We have enough of other necessary things to buy, like gas and food and clothing.... new trash cans?? Come ON!!

What do you think?
