Original Story: Don't fall victim to a home repair scam
(WHAS11) - Since WHAS11’s Andy Treinen did a story on home repair rip offs, several home owners have called our newsroom saying they too have been ripped off by the same contractor.
Both Becky Grogg and Stuart Nelson have been keeping very good records on their contractor John McQueen and both were very dissatisfied.
Becky and her husband contracted Champion Construction to put a new face on their home. At the time they didn’t know about his previous conviction through the Attorney Generals office. With painted windows, rotten trim and gaps in the siding, the Grogg’s house is far from acceptable.
McQueen signed a contract to build a garage for Stuart Nelson. And Nelson has received three letters from sub contractors threatening to put liens on his home.
McQueen told WHAS11 Thursday that the city finalized the permit on Nelson’s garage, but Nelson says that’s only on the framing and electric. He showed evidence of a leaking garage, extremely bowed siding and siding falling off.
Nelson says he’s paid $22,000 and some of the work has to be re-done.
