(WHAS11) - Think feeding your family is tough?  Think again.  Imagine having to feed a family of 13.  With rising food prices and a tough economy it’s challenging to save money at the grocery store.  We went shopping with the mother of this family that has 11 kids.  She showed us her money saving tips.

Margie Hester shops mostly at Kroger and Meijer.  She says she saves the most money shopping at these stores rather than a big club warehouse like Sam’s or Costco.  She’s always scanning for coupons and sales.  In fact, she only buys things that are on sale or items she has a coupon for.  Everyone in her extended family that gets a Sunday newspaper knows to hand over their coupons to her.  The Hester’s also plan out their meals for the week before they go to the store.  That way they are not buying more than they need.

When it comes to meats, Margie says they buy ¾’s of a cow and freeze it.  That way she doesn’t have to see if roast is on sale the week she wants to cook it.  She says you pay more money upfront but you save in the end and you have a better quality meat.  She says the family makes their own bread.  And they don’t eat a lot of junk.  Margie finds healthy snacks that don’t cost a lot of money.  A staple in her house – bean burritos.

If she can plan and put forth the extra work with 11 children – I bet you can too!

Go to the motels in the area and eat all you want..

Drive less. The people who are most hurt by high
gas prices are the ones on a fixed income, like the elder people who have a large medical expenses

1st off don't have so many kids. Use your free time working instead of having kid's.

BUY IN BULK

In addition to using coupons, I have discovered the virtues of shopping for everyday like items cereal, diapers, tissues, razors and home needs through bargains tracking websites like Unodeals.com. It takes a little patience but the savings over the stores are huge.
