Margie Hester shops mostly at Kroger and Meijer. She says she saves the most money shopping at these stores rather than a big club warehouse like Sam’s or Costco. She’s always scanning for coupons and sales. In fact, she only buys things that are on sale or items she has a coupon for. Everyone in her extended family that gets a Sunday newspaper knows to hand over their coupons to her. The Hester’s also plan out their meals for the week before they go to the store. That way they are not buying more than they need.
When it comes to meats, Margie says they buy ¾’s of a cow and freeze it. That way she doesn’t have to see if roast is on sale the week she wants to cook it. She says you pay more money upfront but you save in the end and you have a better quality meat. She says the family makes their own bread. And they don’t eat a lot of junk. Margie finds healthy snacks that don’t cost a lot of money. A staple in her house – bean burritos.
If she can plan and put forth the extra work with 11 children – I bet you can too!
