(WHAS11) - Our consumer watch this week deals with the February 2009 changeover from analog to digital television.

Ready or not here it comes.

WHAS11’s Andy Treinen talked to one of the foremost experts in the country today to get your questions answered.

Michael Willner has testified before congress for seven years about digital television.

As Insight’s CEO he knows the importance February 17th of ‘09.

“We’re in the middle of a communications revolution tight now that’s not any less important to the development of the planet than the industrial revolution was 150-200 years ago,” he says.

Mandatory digital t.v. was put on the fast track after 9/11 to free up channels for emergency communications.  2006 was the original target date. But this time digital convertor boxes are flying off the shelves.

Now to some calls WHAS11 News received from viewers asking about the crawl on Insight telling customers to call a number before July 9th to keep HBO, HBO2 and Showtime. Willner says it’s not related to the February federal changeover. But it is necessary.

‘We are transitioning those three channels from an analog delivery method to digital,” he says.

Willner says of 300,000 Insight customers in Louisville, only a few thousand are still getting those channels from analog delivery. If customers don’t call they’ll lose those channels.

If you want to get in touch with the CEO go to his blog at www.michaelsinsight.com.

“If you told my 18 year old son that I’m hip he would look at you like you were coming from outer space, but yes I have a blog,” says Willner.

And it will be a busy blog come February of next year.
