(WHAS11) - There is news of an investigation into high gas prices in the Louisville area.
Kentucky's Attorney General has launched a probe, asking gas distributors why the prices at Louisville's pumps are so much higher than the rest of the state and most of the country.
If you live in Louisville, you know the drill, buy gas out of town when you can because it's cheaper. A lot cheaper than the $4.20s and $4.30s you're paying at Louisville pumps.
Suspicious enough is the disparity in gas prices between Louisville and the rest of the state that Kentucky’s Attorney General has launched an investigation.
A spokesperson for Marathon Oil says the attorney general will find the answer to the Louisville gas price jump is simple, RFG. In 1995, Governor Brereton Jones ordered Louisville stations to sell a special blend of reformulated gas, RFG, as a way to cut air pollution.
Republican Congressional Candidate Anne Northup says if democrats are looking to place blame for Louisville’s high gas prices, look to their former governor, Jones.
Both Northup and her opponent, Congressman John Yarmuth support the AG's investigation and both say Kentucky or Washington should push to let Louisville sell gas that's less expensive to make and deliver.
I think it is about time someone stood up for the people of Louisville. Doug Hawkins is doing the right thing by petitioning the governor and I support him all the way. I urge everyone in Louisville to visit www.doughawkins.com and sign the petition.
Of course not? That would never happen here. )
I would like to see a comparison between miles per gallon and emissions per gallon between reformulated and non-reformulated gas.I contend the increase in miles per gallon from non-ref. fuel offsets or bypasses any gains made by using reformulated gas.
You can drive south of the city or east and gas is anywhere from 10 - 20 cents cheaper than Louisville.
Its the same gas everywhere, yet Louisville is .15 cents higher than Lexington, Indiana, and the surrounding area.
Everyone should pay the same price. The area shouldnt affect the price. Its like were getting punished, for living in Louisville.
Define "gouging". If there is collusion or price-fixing amoung competitors, then they should go to jail. But a free market economy will set the price via competition. If gas is cheaper outside Jefferson county, then buy gas there.
Sounds like you define "gouging" as "I have to pay more than I want to pay". Stop whining and do something about it - ride TARC, carpool, plan your trips for efficiency, and use the Web sites to locate the least expensive gas.
A trip to SC yielded 30-50 cents cheaper gas starting in Simpsonsville just outside of Louisville. Never saw $4 per gallon until we arrived back in the city limits.
they are going to start an investigation into the high gas prices. that will be a waste of time. someone will give alot of lip service and in the long run nothing will happen. the fuel we are buying now is 6 months to a year old. it sets in the holding tanks after being refined until it is needed. so then why arent we paying a price that reflect the oil cost back when it waqs purchased, instead of todays oil price. its no wonder the oil companies make billions of dollars in profit. we are all just a bunch of sheep being led to slaughter. i guess as long as we all keep our heads in the sand and trust our leaders it will be ok.
sure there is. but as long as no one in goverment steps up to stop it, they will continue. we need the fuel in order to go thru every day life. its easy to talk about a boycott, its another thing to actually pull it off.
DUH!!!!!!!!!!
It is price gouging but they say it is not as long as everyone is doing it! Thats ridiculous! Where does it end?
It's very clear and in everyone's face. You drive one block to a gas station and see its price. You drive down the block to another gas station under the same name and its a few cents more!
There is gas gouging going on every day in every state and goverenment will do nothing to stop it, if Obaba wins the election he promises to raise tax on fuel and everything else, woe to the American people if this happens, our recession will quickly fall into a depression.
You can leave for work at 7:30am passing a service station with a price of $4.19 and by the time you get home that same gas station is $4.29. Need I say more?
"Yes our beloved mayor receives some kickback from these companies. I believe it regardless of what he says. Speedway and other gas stations all our in on it. Besides if you look it up most of these gas stations are owned by the same group, so a Chevron and Speedway and the rest their profits go to the same people. Our Mayor acted like he was unaware of the gas prices in Louisville. How can the Louisville Mayor not know its his town.
I drove to Tx a couple of weeks ago and didn't pay over 3.89 a gallon the whole trip except for in Louisville.
just back from Northern Indiana. Gas 3.93 to 4.08 everywhere except here.
I live in Louisville. I go through Brandenburg to get to Ft. Knox. Gas was 30 cents a gallon cheaper in Brandenburg two weeks ago. It's always cheaper there.
I live 8 miles from the Indiana border. Gas is cheaper over there by 5 to 10 cents also.
I am very curious as to why gas is so much cheaper in places like Mexico, and Venezuela ??
I saw that it was $1.75 in Mexico, and a WHOPPING $.10 a Gallon in Venezuela, I don't blame the leaders of that country for wanting more from the oil companies who are making record profits in these times of outrageous greed, and profiteering !!
There is absoiutely no reason any one in America should be paying more than $1.50 per gallon of gas. The technology exist to extend gas milage by much farther than is in current use. For example, have you ever seen the commercial on T.V. for the CSX railroad, claiming 435 miles to the gallon of gas ?? Why isn't that being used for cars and trucks ??
And why isn't gasahol, or bio deisel being sold in every gas station.... I believe it is all centered around greed, and no concern for the people who must have transportation, food, and at least a few dollars left after buying a tank of gas !!
