Woman drives wrong way on Watterson, kills self, other driver

(WHAS11)--The westbound lanes Watterson Expressway near Interstate 65 are flowing again after an early morning double fatal accident.

Police said the accident happened around 3 a.m. Tuesday when a 31-year-old Stephanie Byrd of Jeffersonville was driving a white Dodge Intrepid with no headlights on was going the wrong way on the Watterson.  Apparently the woman got on the Watterson near Taylor Boulevard.

Byrd hit a Honda head-on, killing herself and the driver of the other car, 32-year-old Saul Figueroa-Bautista.

Dwight Mitchell, LMPD spokesperson, said there is an investigation underway and they have not ruled out any factors.

A mini-van also clipped during the crash, but police said the driver was not hurt.
