Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - Sprint will pay the government a $7.5 million fine for sending phone and text messages to customers who opted out of them.

As part of the settlement, the wireless carrier will set up a compliance program and report to regulators for the next two years.

Sprint blames the unwanted messages on technical and human error, and said that it has made improvements to prevent this from occurring again.

This is the largest fine in a "Do Not Call" case to date.
