Habitat for Humanity does a lot for communities and now, it's giving back in other ways.

The Habitat Re-Store is more than your usual thrift store.

“We have a desire to build strong relationships, great homes, and healthy neighborhoods. And this community didn't have, until we created the store, a place for used building materials to go.

It does indeed, remain the only non-profit thrift store for building materials.  The other piece is we created some jobs with the re-store. Through the sales piece here at the store and also the de-construction piece out in the community, “says Executive Director Rob Locke.

“We do have a variety of things, but cabinets sell very well. Furniture sells very well.  We have a nice assortment of office furniture. So if you are setting up a home office, this is a great place to come and look before buying new.  We also have a lot of straight building materials.

Windows, doors, ceiling fans, light fixtures, plumbing fixtures, we carry all of those things. And they sell very well. Typically when we have raw building materials like brick, plywood, or bead board, those things sell very well also,” says Locke.

“When we take donations of materials, if we can't sell those materials, we will recycle absolutely everything we can. All scrap metal.  Everything that can be kept out of the landfill, we will keep out of the landfill, absolutely.”  Locke says

So this project helps out habitat for humanity, gives people a less expensive alternative, and keeps household items out of the landfill.

The re-store is located across from Papa John's Cardinal Stadium at 2777 South Floyd Street.
