HARRISON COUNTY, Ind. (WHAS11)—The Harrison County Sheriff’s Department is warning residents about a scam that is happening on Friday.

Captain Brad Shepherd said the department has received at least eight calls in an hour about a Lt. Tommy Daniels from the warrant division.

Shepherd said there is no person by that name employed by the department and they have no division specifically for warrants.

He said this person impersonating an officer is calling people, telling them they need to pay $836 to stay out of jail.

The scammer tells the potential victims to go to Walgreens and get a Green Dot Card with the money on it.

No one has went through with the scam, Shepherd said. Many of those who were potential victims called dispatch back to get the information again and confirm where they were supposed to get the card.

Dispatchers are telling those calling in that it is a scam.

The Sheriff’s Department is asking anyone who has received the call to call their office at 812-738-2195 ext. 1.
