(WHAS11) It’s been more than five weeks since the flash flood of 2009, and many are still cleaning up their basements.

But MSD is offering a basement backflow program for free, to keep your basement clean during the next heavy rain.

Through MSD, you can get a sump pump, or a backwater ball valve, which will protect your basement from getting flooded.

Metro council member Dan Johnson has sent out 11,000 post cards to residents about the program.  “Everywhere is floodable in the Louisville area, now is the time to get this new program; especially after the flood we just had.”

For more information on this program, call MSD customer service at 587-0608.
