(WHAS11) - A prominent Kentucky horseman who is pushing for slots at racetracks says he expects senate leadership to offer up a constitutional amendment to permit gaming at Kentucky racetracks.

But Lanes End Farm General Manager Bill Farish says it's a cynical move, not really intended to bring expanded gaming.

"…an effort to drive up social conservative turnout in the next election cycle, hoping that the increased turnout will help their senate candidates," says Farish.

Farish compares the move to a gay marriage amendment that helped drive conservative voters to the polls a few years ago.

The comments are the latest in a battle within the Republican Party.

Farish is a long time republican whose father was ambassador to Great Britain under President George W. Bush.
