Here are some expert guidelines. For your hairstylist the recommended tip is the cost of one visit. If you have someone who helps clean your house weekly, it is usually the cost of one service. If you live in an apartment, it's acceptable to give $25 to $100 to doormen and $15 to $50 for handymen.
Also, remember that there are some rules. The United States Postal Service does not let carriers accept cash gifts or gifts greater than $20.
If you are short on cash a small gift or baked goods are also appreciated.
