LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Gas prices are on the rise in Louisville as the Kentucky Derby approaches.

Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway says he hasn't given up his fight to bring about more competition in the state and hopes the new chairwoman of the Federal Trade Commission will do something about the 1997 merger of Ashland Oil and Marathon, which created a monopoly on gas distribution in Louisville.

Five years ago, Conway and Governor Steve Beshear first called on federal agencies to investigate Louisville's wholesale gas prices.
