LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Federal safety regulators say they will be investigating problems with stalling or surging engines in nearly 725,000 Ford vehicles.

Vehicles affected include the Ford Escape, Ford Fusion, Mercury Mariner and Mercury Milan from the 2009 to 2011 model years.

Ford and the government have received nearly 1,500 complaints.

There is no recall yet, but the investigation could lead to one.
