LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- It has been decades since LaGrange, Ky. has had a local family-owned liquor store.
“It’s been 60 years,” Dan Doty said. “Not a new beginning, but certainly something different for LaGrange.”
It was Dan Doty's father, L.T., who had a dream to open a liquor store when he bought some property at 202 South First St. back in 1977.
“He had a dream and a vision, always,” Nancy Doty, L.T.’s widow, said. “He always had a vision.”
Nancy remembers that vision could not come to light at the time because LaGrange was a dry town. No alcohol could be sold in the city from the 1940's until 2012. Now, L.T.'s son is resurrecting a dream they call 'All Aboard Liquors.'
“I’ve had people walk through the door and go wow,” Dan said. “They just can’t believe it’s happened.”
Things are almost finished being set up in the store. The bottles are up, the beer is in and the dream is well alive.
“For my grandchildren and my great grandchildren, I hope that I leave a legacy for them,” Nancy said.
“We’ve come a long way in six months,” Dan said. “[We built] a newly constructed building. It’s been a lot of work. We hope it’s worth it.”
A soft opening is scheduled at the story this Thursday.
