(WHAS11) - This Consumer Watch is a reminder to all of us to have a very clear contract when we hire someone to work on our home.
For a homeowner on the south side of town the lesson was learned $2,600 too late.
He called WHAS11's Andy Treinen and Andy answered.
Herschel Lampton was tired of losing sleep, and he heard WHAS11 News had some success helping people out so he thought he’d give it a try.
"He did say that he would put them back, he could put them back no problem,” says Marie Lampton.
The man she is referring to is the owner of Your Home Roofing, Donnie Reichle.
The dispute centers around the gutter helmets on Lampton's house.
They say they were at least partially damaged by the roofers. The Lamptons say at first Reichle promised to make it good, but when Lampton replaced the helmets at a cost of $2,632 in February, the offer was withdrawn.
The problem for Lampton is that some of the gutter helmets were damaged in the ice storm before Your Home Roofing even set foot on his house.
The problem for Reichle is that he acknowledges that his guys did do some damage to other parts of the gutter helmets that were hauled away after the roofing job.
WHAS11 News went in search of a solution at the address listed on the contract but Your Home Roofing has moved.
But Donnie Reichle returned Andy Treinen’s call and he proved that there are at least two sides to every story.
WHAS11 News has received a number of calls from satisfied customers of Your Home Roofing since the story was first mentioned on GMK Wednesday morning.
Andy Treinen talked to Donnie Reichle about a possible deal and he's willing to forfeit the $500 that he made on the job to resolve the dispute with Mr. Lampton. When Andy presented that option to Herschel, he declined and said he's now going to call a lawyer.
If you have a consumer problem you'd like Andy to look into just send an e-mail to Consumer Watch@whas11.com.
