(WHAS11) -- The Republican National Convention begins Monday, and in 2012, a smartphone can be a political junkie's best friend, with the help of a few apps. Good Morning Kentuckiana’s Andy Treinen has Monday's Convention Download from Tampa.

Whether attending the Grand Old Party convention in Tampa, celebrating in Charlotte, or watching the festivities from afar, a crop of apps bring the best of the 2012 conventions to you. The Republican party is calling their big event a "convention without walls," so users of the official mobile app for iPhone and Android can watch the convention fanfare live.

For those who snagged a ticket to Tampa, there are Florida maps, local weather and information on where to eat, drink and be merry.

The Democrats also showcase their host city of Charlotte in their first-ever official convention app. Users can follow all of the speeches and pageantry from an iPhone, ipPad or Android, as delegates share their photos, videos and tweets.

CNN and Time have teamed up for a "convention floor pass" to both cities. The app includes behind-the-scenes tidbits from CNN and Time journalists on the ground, breaking news, and early access to CNN-Time polls. It also includes a social hub where users can catch up on political twitter buzz, check in on Foursquare, and browse and submit user-generated content.
