Consumer Reports blind taste test shows grocery generic brands as good as name brands

(WHAS11) - Saving money at the grocery store doesn’t have to mean cutting back on taste too.

In fact, Consumer Reports says it could taste better!

The company did blind taste tests, and most of the store brand products were ranked the same as national brands.

Four times, the store brand even won!

One possible explanation, more money is poured into packaging and advertising, than what actually goes into the package.

Mandy Walker of Consumer Reports said, “Store brands have been working on these formulas for decades and decades and a lot of the time are made by the same manufacturers that make the brand name products, so they really can taste just as good or better.”
