LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- You may soon have to show your ID to purchase nail polish remover at CVS stores in Louisville.

The drugstore chain is implementing the policy in an effort to curb methamphetamine production. Acetone is a key component in the manufacturing of meth and many nail polish removers contain the chemical.

The policy also restricts the number of bottles a customer may purchase at one time and the sale of nail polish remover to anyone under the age of 18.

CVS has already implemented the policy is Ohio, Illinois and Hawaii.
