Each  year people vow to start the new year on a new foot. Among the most popular resolutions: saving money, losing weight and giving back. So here are some apps that can help you keep on track.

Financial goals

There are lots of apps to help you keep your budget on track. Here are some of the best free ones and a few that do charge.

Mint – free. This is one of my favorites because it’s free. It’s a great way to budget. Just add your accounts and it sets up everything for you using secure software. See all your accounts in one place.

Left to spend - $1. This is a pretty basic app that essentially tells you how much you have left to spend. No fancy graphics just the facts.

Jumsoft - $2.00. Oversee your account balances, handle bills, keep budgets, and manage your bank accounts, credit cards, assets, and cash.

Moneybook - $3. Another app with great graphic features that’s easy to use. It also comes with a free web app.

Weight loss / Exercise

There are several apps that can help you track your progress if you want to lose weight. Here are a few:

Noom – free. The Coach gives you daily tasks to help create positive lifestyle changes for long-term weight loss. These tasks guide you through a scientifically-backed weight loss plan that provides informational articles, fun challenges, a daily Noom score to track how you’re doing, activity reminders, plus easy and convenient food and exercise logging — the keys to successful weight loss.

Lose it -- free. This works on your phone or your computer. Lose it is designed with one goal - to help you lose weight in healthy, sustainable way. No magic pills, no crazy diets - just a simple, easy-to-use program that helps you stay in your calorie budget.

Fitocracy – Free. Some people don’t like the idea of “gamifying” applications, but having some fun goals to accomplish when it comes to losing weight and getting healthy can really push you to succeed. Fitocracy is basically an RPG for getting in shape where you can unlock achievements and earn points by accomplishing workout plans and reaching your fitness goals. It’s built around being social interaction with groups as well as challenging others.

Fooducate – Free. Help make better choices at the grocery store using this free app to scan bar codes. Here's the droid app and the iphone app.

Map My Fitness GPS tracking – free. This app tracks your runs, walks, hikes. It’s like a personal training log and friend. Mark out your path along an interactive map and record essential metrics including duration, distance, pace, speed and elevation. Once you finish your workout, save your data and it automatically uploads to www.MapMyFitness.com where you can view your route, workout data, and a comprehensive workout history. Plus, the new MapMyFitness gives you the ability to easily share your workout data with friends and family via email, Facebook and Twitter.

Give back

Volunteer Match – free. Looking for a way to give back more? Now there’s no excuse. This free app helps match you up with volunteer programs in your area. Just plug in your zip code and find places that need help.

Flash Volunteer – free. This app helps you locate places that need your help now. You can also connect to people who share common goals.
