LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS/WCNC) -- The anticipation of the 2016-2017 college football season prompted the morning news teams from a pair of sister stations to enter a friendly wager over the Thursday night game between the University of North Carolina at Charlotte 49ers and University of Louisville Cardinals.
Good Morning Kentuckiana Anchor Derrick Rose issued the challenge to WCNC NBC Charlotte Traffic Anchor Brooke Katz, predicting the Cards would take home the win.
Katz, a former traffic anchor for GMK, along with her co-anchors Carolyn Bruck and Ben Thompson, gladly accepted the challenge.
If the Cards win Thursday night, Katz and her team offered to provide a case of North Carolina produced Cheerwine.
If the 49ers win, Derrick agreed to send some memorabilia from Churchill Downs to the team in Charlotte.
Thursday's game will mark the 10th time in the last 11 seasons the Cards will start a season at home.
“To see us come out and execute," Head Coach Bobby Petrino said, "Do their job, do what they’re asked to do. Work their technique and their fundamentals, and then play with great effort, play in and play out. And that’s what we want to see, what you call effort habit.”
The Cards are a favorite in the game as the 49ers lost ten straight games last season.
Kickoff at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium is at 7 p.m.
Look for updates on the friendly bet between the stations on Good Morning Kentuckiana Friday morning.
