(WHAS11) - In one year the last Ford Explorer will roll off the lines at Ford's Louisville Assembly Plant.
The plant will shut down from this time next year until July 2011 for renovations that will allow ford to make more fuel-efficient vehicles.
220 Ford workers will help with the $600 million renovation. The other 900 will be temporarily laid off and will be eligible for callbacks when the plant re-opens.
Ford says they should be able to hire even more workers for the new line which will make Ford Escapes at first and eventually the Kuga.
