Wayside Christian Mission is under fire for opening its doors as a hotel last Wednesday before getting the proper permits from the city.
Officials from Wayside say they were hurrying to move residents from their homeless shelter on east Market Street before the cold weather hit.
They say they didn't realize they needed to meet specific state hotel guidelines pertaining to sewage, cleanliness, and other matters.
“We've been through the code book, there's absolutely nothing in there that we didn't already do, except for having the individually wrapped single service cups in the rooms. So we're putting those out today and we'll be ready,” said Nina Mosely, Wayside Christian Mission.
The health department says they plan to re-visit Wayside later this week.
