SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Major traffic congestion is expected on Thursday when the outlet mall in Simpsonville, Kentucky opens.
On Wednesday, the Outlet Shoppes of the Bluegrass hosted a VIP party for avid shoppers. For $50, which goes to the James Graham Brown Cancer Center, shoppers could beat the expected large crowds on opening weekend and do some early shopping.
"This is the first outlet center in Kentucky. It's between Louisville, Lexington, Ohio, so it's kind of in that golden triangle," Gina Selchta with the Outlet Shoppes of the Bluegrass said.
Many people were thrilled with the development, bringing more jobs to the area.
"My son works out here, my daughter's going to work out here. It brings jobs and opportunities to Shelby County, so yeah," Tracey Milburn, a shopping at the VIP event, said.
Just about everyone had a particular store in mind they wanted to visit the most. Others visited to help give back.
"I just finished chemo and I'm getting ready to have reconstructive surgery at the end of the month," Kelly Nixon, a VIP Wednesday shopper, said.
