LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The landscape is changing once again on 4th Street, another restaurant, The Pub, has closed. This time over a rent dispute with Cordish the company that owns the property.

The pub closed officially on Monday. People showed up ready to have lunch only to find the doors locked and note in the window thanking them for their patronage.

Speculation is growing now over what will go in the vacant spot. Many people are speculating that since Main Street has Whiskey Row,  this could open room  for yet another Bourbon based restaurant, but no one is confirming that.

"Every time I was here they looked pretty busy," said patron Larry Zilke.

Cordish filed an eviction notice against The Pub, citing a dispute over rent and common area maintenance costs. Attorneys for The Pub say they wanted to keep it open while working out their financial disagreements. But the restaurant was forced to close. That has other businesses clamoring over who will fill the vacant spot.

"I hope something good will go in there but I don't know when they will get it in there, " said Jeremy Mathley with  Ri Ra Restaurant

The area went through a similar situation when Borders packed up, months later Gordon Biersch moved in. Mayor Greg Fischer says he's confident Cordish will find another tenant that will fit in with a growing and changing 4th Street Live.

"They are always having new concepts. We've got the Tavern on 4th that will be coming down the pike in the next several months. We have a skating rink inside 4th Street Live. It's the nature of the business and they are one of the best in the world at it and I am sure they will do a good job, " said Mayor Greg Fischer

Last week Jim Beam announced that it would house local offices over Gordon Biersch which means 60 new jobs already added to 4th street. Cordish did not return our calls seeking comment on how long the process will take to replace The Pub or if they are already entertaining offers.
