The expected winter blast has LG&E preparing for the worst and hoping for the best.

The company tells us in anticipation of the weather they've had daily forecast meetings and don't expect the weather to cause major problems.

But in light of last year's ice storm, LG&E crews spent the latter part of last year preparing for the weather problems we might have in store.

"We can't salt the lines, but one thing we can do, and have been doing is aggressive tree trimming. It's not so much of our system being unreliable; it's what's going into the lines that gives us issues like snow accumulation and ice accumulation on tree limbs and those breaking and falling onto our lines," said Brian Phillips, e.ON US.

He also says later this year LG&E will unveil a near real time outage map that customers can access on the company's website during a storm.
