Kentucky's governor is optimistic tonight about the state's chances of landing a Harley-Davidson manufacturing plant.

The plant could be located here in Shelby County near I-64 if the motorcycling manufacturer moves from its current facility in York, Pennsylvania.

Governor Beshear is ready to call a special session to authorize the sale of bonds that would be tied to an economic incentive package.

Harley-Davidson is expected to make a decision in early December, following a vote by its current union workers.

The governor was in town Tuesday and said he would not raise taxes to bail this state out of the deficit.

This isn't really a net job gain for this country. Its just the transfer of a business from one location to another where the wages and standard of living is lower and the other aspect is cheaper labor. Just like when US corporations moved from New York state and the Northeast to open plants in Mississippi. The people who truly gain is usually the corporation and the government tax base of the new state. The workers do have jobs but what type of jobs and at what type of pay. Notice that PA is a highly unionized state and once was a major manufacturing state. KY isn't and that is the sole reason for coming here. Nevertheless, it doesn't matter because eventually after getting our tax incentives to move here, they will be offshoring production to China where the wages are even lower. See how Fruit of the Loom and GE did the people of this state. Kentucky is one of the worst when it comes to giving incentives to businesses without any contract or any rule of thumb to their stay.
