LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – In a statement released to the media, Stockholm-based Electrolux confirmed that the company is considering acquiring General Electric’s Home Appliances.
The statement reads:
No agreement has been reached, and there can be no assurances that an agreement will be reached. Any further announcements will be made in due course.
We also reached out to General Electric who told us "GE is evaluating a wide range of strategic options for our appliances business, including discussions with Electrolux and other interested parties."
General Electric employs about six thousand employees here in Louisville at their appliance park just off Poplar Level Road.
Mark Hebert, director of media relations at UofL, released the following statement late Thursday afternoon about its recent partnership with GE, operating a micro-factory near campus:
"UofL has an outstanding, innovative academic and research relationship with GE. We expect that relationship to continue and grow regardless of who is running the Louisville appliances operation in the future."
The company is the third leading manufacturer of refrigerators in the United States behind Whirlpool and Electrolux.
