JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WHAS11) -- This is Amazon’s 4th distribution center in Indiana and it means more than a thousand jobs. It also means millions of dollars in investments in Southern Indiana.
Outside of the new Amazon warehouse, there is a flurry of activity. It officially opened Monday, and Tuesday trucks moved in and out as they prep for employees to begin showing up Wednesday.
"Absolutely it has created a buzz," Paul Wheatley with River Ridge Commerce Center said.
Finishing touches are going on everywhere and once everything is up and running, the facility will serve as a customer fulfillment center.
"When you go online to order. They process the order and ship out of there," Wheatley said. "The new Amazon facility is one million square feet, that's about 23 acres under one roof. It will soon be bustling here as the holiday season gets closer."
Amazon expects to hire more than a thousand employees by 2015 - hundreds of seasonal employees within the coming weeks. In all, it means a big investment here in Southern Indiana to the tune of $150 million.
"Amazon is a world recognized name both in terms of the investment and job creation. Also the perception. It's great to have a name like Amazon here at River Ridge," Wheatley said.
