CHICAGO (AP) — Tribune Co. will not use most Associated Press content next week to test whether the financially struggling company can do without it.

A story on The Chicago Tribune's Web site late Monday said Tribune will use some AP material such as sports statistics and stories it considers vital. Tribune says its television stations and newspapers' online editions will not participate.

Tribune also 23 TV stations, along with the Los Angeles Times, The Baltimore Sun and other dailies. It filed for bankruptcy protection in December.

AP said in a statement to Tribune that the AP has been working with its members to ensure its services are valuable. Messages left late Monday for Tribune and Chicago Tribune representatives were not immediately returned.
